Local Community Organizer Daniel Banguel Announces Intent to Run Metro City Council

BATON ROUGE, LA – Today, Community Organizer Daniel Banguel announced his candidacy for Metro Council, District 5. Banguel’s platform will focus on a seven-point system, which includes: education, crime prevention, healthcare, transportation, economic development, homeless prevention and safety.

“It would be an honor and a privilege to represent District 5 on the city council,” said Banguel. “While no one can fill the late former Metro Councilwoman Ronnie Edwards same shoes, I assuredly share her progressive values and those of the people of District 5. If elected, “I will continue to work hard every day to live up to the standard of excellence in public service that she has set.”

Banguel currently serves as chief executive officer of the Louisiana Educational Advancement Project (LEAP). LEAP’s mission as a nonprofit is to reform communities by bringing awareness to education, health and violence. He has also been featured as the keynote speaker at various schools and community outreach events and hosts a community radio talk show called Pounding the Pavement that focus on issues that affect the community.

“I am committed to ensuring that our community continues to have a strong progressive voice on the city council. I look forward to the opportunity to continue my work on education, strengthening the economy to help create new, good-paying jobs with benefits and providing contract opportunities to minority own businesses,” said Banguel.

In addition to being an advocate in the local community on numerous issues, Banguel also developed a program called E360, a career development tool for local high schools in East Baton Rouge Parish. .
